The Last Mile Program's purpose was to grow the adoption of the Mass HIway by all eligible participants while catalyzing innovation and accelerating healthcare improvements throughout Massachusetts, through the following activities:
- Connect participants to the Mass HIway and enable integration by all participants.
- Maximize adoption and grow utilization by optimizing Mass HIway services.
- Impact healthcare by demonstrating measurable improvements in care quality, population health, and health care costs.
This program was funded through the State Health Information Exchange Program of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) of Health IT, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The ONC designated funds in support of “states’ efforts to rapidly build capacity for exchanging health information across the health care system.” The Last Mile Program worked collaboratively with Executive Office for Health and Human Services (EOHHS) to fund the HIway Implementation Grants with a goal of growing the adoption of the HIway.
