MeHI, the Massachusetts eHealth Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, is the designated state agency for growing the digital health ecosystem in Massachusetts.
MeHI works to catalyze health care innovation, technology and competitiveness, and accelerate the adoption and utilization of health technologies across provider settings to improve the safety, quality and efficiency of health care in Massachusetts.
MeHI was created by legislation in Chapter 305 of the Acts of 2008 and our mission was further extended by Chapter 224 of the Acts of 2012.
Digital health was identified as a key component of the Commonwealth's economic development plan (PDF) in 2015 and in January 2016 the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative was convened to bring together public, private, academic and health care partners to build a stronger and more connected statewide digital health ecosystem. The Commonwealth designated MeHI as the public lead for the Initiative.
The early work of the Initiative was steered by a statewide Digital Health Care Council, which advised on the growth of the industry in the state and chartered a plan to create the leading global ecosystem for digital health.
The report, which was published in July 2019 (PDF), identified eight near-term priority initiative recommendations, along with a recap of the Council's activities, and plans for future initiatives.
