Health IT Mentorship Program Image

MeHI developed the Health Information Technology (Health IT) Mentorship Program to provide opportunities for Massachusetts college students to learn about careers in the health IT field, network with each other and health IT professionals and gain valuable experience as they complete a health IT project with the guidance of a mentor. The goal of the Health IT Mentorship Program is to advance the health IT workforce in Massachusetts by encouraging college students from a wide variety of backgrounds to pursue a career in health IT.

We take a broad view of health IT that includes support with both software and hardware, as well as health information management, informatics, data analysis, digital health navigation and more. We are looking for mentors that represent a variety of roles in health IT, including both IT and IS professionals. We welcome mentors from hospitals, community health centers, community-based organizations, provider groups and other health care organizations.

Program Overview

MeHI’s Health IT Mentorship Program will pair professionals currently working in the health IT field with students looking to enter the health IT workforce.

  • Mentors and mentees will meet for at least one hour every two weeks.
  • Mentees will work on a health IT-focused project with the guidance of their mentor.
  • The program will culminate in a virtual project showcase.
  • Mentees will have the opportunity to virtually network, support one another and learn skills that will be valuable in the workplace.
  • Mentors will connect with a pipeline of diverse, skilled health IT professionals who are mission-driven to support patient care.

Testimonials

Astrid Lambert photo
"This is a wonderful program. I have learned as much from my mentees as they have learned from me. It is rewarding for all participants and gives mentees access to real life work environments. I think a lot of mentees come out of the program with a clearer understanding of what they want to do after college, which helps them make better course selections to accomplish their goals."
Astrid Lambert, Cambridge Health Alliance
Michael Lee photo
"This is a great opportunity for students to meet people working in HIT careers and to be exposed to different kinds of roles in this space. MeHI works hard to recruit mentors with a wide variety of skills to give the students an opportunity to work with someone in their area of interest."
Michael Lee, Boston Children's Hospital
