The Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech (MeHI) is pleased to announce the eight finalists for the Healthy Aging Sandbox Challenge. The Challenge was designed to find digital health solutions that can help older adults live as well and independently as possible by supporting their physical, mental, and social health.

The finalists will participate in a two-month, virtual ‘Introduction to the Massachusetts Digital Health Ecosystem’ program. The introduction will include a speaker series featuring prominent voices from across the ecosystem, including venture capitalists, successful digital health innovators, and leading researchers. During the program, participants will also be assessed on their testing and validation needs and then matched with members of the MA Digital Health Sandbox Network, a group of cutting-edge research and development organizations supporting digital health companies. The finalists will compete for a total of $200,000 to scope detailed testing and validation projects with their Sandbox partner.

The finalists are:

  • Artifcts (Washington D.C.)

Artifcts is an online and app-based platform that allows members to capture, preserve, and share the history, stories, and memories behind their most cherished objects.

  • Enabled Health (Burlington, MA)

  • MiiCare (Lewes, Delaware)

MiiCare’s AI Home Care Platform uses an optimized fusion of telehealth devices, remote monitoring technology, acoustic sensing, and an AI-enabled digital therapeutics solution, which provides CBT for many long-term conditions through an in-house Digital Health Coach called Monica.

  • Moneta Health (Washington, D.C.)

Moneta Health has created a highly accessible digital model of cognitive rehabilitation therapy (CRT) that combines a simple user interface (telephone), a compassionate clinician, and on-demand therapy.

  • Ompractice (Springfield, MA)

Ompractice provides evidence-based physical activity and mindfulness classes via two-way video.

  • Onward (San Leandro, CA)

Onward provides technology-enabled rideshare service for older adults with door-through-door service with a Companion Driver.

  • REEV (Boston, MA)

REEV produces a smart and custom robotic knee brace to recover freedom and confidence in daily movements for those suffering from diminished mobility.

  • SecureSeniorConnections (Based in Scottsdale, AZ, with workforce in Massachusetts)

The SecureSeniorConnections platform is a virtual senior community that supports older adults in leading emotionally, mentally, and physically healthier lives through connection and social wellness

The program will culminate in a judged competition in June 2023 where participants will pitch both their product and their Sandbox project. Judges will select four winners to receive $50,000 to complete their proposed Sandbox project, which will cover fees at the partner Sandbox facility.
