When an electronic CDA Document such as the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) is sent to a facility that does not have an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, staff from that facility will be able to access the routed document from within their “Surrogate EHR Environment” (SEE). SEE is hosted by a trusted authority and accessed via a standard web browser. Non-EHR users will be able to use SEE to view, print, edit and securely send CDA transfer summary documents to the next healthcare organization caring for the patient via the Mass HIway, the statewide health information exchange using Direct message transmission.
SEE is part of Project IMPACT (Improving Post Acute Care Transfers), an ONC-funded initiative piloted in the Worcester, Mass. area. Sixteen provider organizations participated.
The following videos demonstrate how to use the SEE environment and answer many frequently asked questions. The training session was hosted by Lawrence Garber, M.D., Principal Investigator for IMPACT. After the training session, take the brief test to see what you have learned.
