Mass HIway participants are categorized as:

• • Quality Reporting: Connected to the Mass HIway primarily for receiving Direct messages for payor quality reporting.
  • Care Coordination: Connected to the Mass HIway primarily for sending and/or receiving Direct messages to coordinate the care of shared patients.
  • DPH Registries: Connected to the Mass HIway primarily to send required reporting to the Department of Public Health (DPH).
  • DPH Registries and Care Coordination: Connected to the Mass HIway to send required reporting to the Department of Public Health (DPH), as well as sending and/or receiving Direct messages to coordinate the care of shared patients.

With the release of Mass HIway 2.0, the HIway became a member of the DirectTrust network. A significant advantage of the DirectTrust network is that it connects many HISPs, making it easier for healthcare providers to find trading partners with whom to exchange health information.
