Description
The Health Informatics and Management (HI+M) program offers an MS in two concentrations, Health Informatics and Health Management. The program primarily enrolls mid-career professionals working within health care and related organizations. Many students complete a Graduate Certificate before seeking admission to the MS program, and Certificate courses are accepted as credit towards the MS.
Health informatics students are required to take five Health Management courses (Organizational Behavior in Healthcare, Healthcare Finance, Operations Analysis and Quality Improvement, Healthcare Management, and Law and Ethics in Healthcare) and six of seven Health Informatics courses (Health Informatics, Healthcare Information Systems, Health Information Systems Planning, Healthcare Database Design, Healthcare Database Development, Healthcare Project Management, and Strategic Planning in Healthcare and HIT), plus a Capstone Project.
While a background in health is not required for admission to the program, applicants with significant health-related work experience are given preference. All applicants must have two or more years of full-time, relevant work experience.
The HI+M program has more than 110 students, half of whom are focused on Health Informatics. The program has six faculty members who teach Health Informatics courses and another nine faculty members who teach Health Management courses.
