Meaningful Use EHR Incentives

Meaningful Use EHR IncentivesThe federal government is committing unprecedented resources to support the adoption and Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records (EHR).  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is making available incentive payments totaling up to $27 billion over 10 years, or as much as $44,000 per provider, through Medicare, and $63,750 per provider, through Medicaid.  There are different rules and requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Eligible Professionals (EPs).  Eligible Professionals may not be hospital-based and those who do not participate with the Medicaid or Medicare programs are not eligible for the program’s funds.  For Medicaid payments, EPs must have 30% Medicaid patient volume threshold (with the exception of Pediatricians who can have a 20% population).
